Pit Bull Kills One Year Old

A one year old boy was killed this Saturday by his family’s pit bull.  Authorities say the pit bull mauled the one year old at his grandparent’s house. The grandfather of the one year old called 911, but it was too late. No one else was injured, but the grandmother was taken to the hospital after suffering emotional trauma from the attack. An officer responding to the scene tried to control the dog, but his attempts did not work. After the pit bull lunged at the officer, he was forced to shoot the dog; there is no further information on the dog’s condition.

  1. People should know that pit bulls are aggressive dogs and should not be around little kids. Especially when the little kids, like that one year old, want to play around with them. Dumb!

  2. Kayla, pit bull's might be agressvie but they also can be real sweet hearts. Not everyone's the same, same goes for dogs and other animals. This event is real sad, don't get me wrong, but just because one pit bull mauled a little boy doesn't mean you should condem the rest of the breed.

  3. I agree with Kayla on this. Dogs that are notorious for being aggressive and have harmed and killed children in the past shouldn't be let near small children. The owners of the dogs know what their dog is capable of, and letting it near a one-year-old is irresponsible. It's sad that the dog was shot, but in the circumstances, it was completely necessary to shoot the dog to keep it from doing any more harm. People who own pit bulls should understand that while their dogs can be 'sweethearts', they are also capable of great damage. The fact that this dog mauled a small child is just proof of this.
The fact that a little boy lost his life before it even really started because his grandparents couldn't keep their dog in control is tragic. This is a situation that could have and should have been prevented. While it is true that not all pit bulls behave as this one did, when a little kid is killed by one, it proves that letting them near children is a bad idea.
